Cycling towards a brighter
future
for disabled children in Cambodia
map by Felix Hude Two
members of Friends of interPARTare organising
and participating in, a major fundraising event to assist
with the continuation of projects in Cambodia. ‘CyCleCambodia’ is
a 1,000km cycle ‘trek‘, that will take Ray
and fellow cyclist Tania, around Tonle Sap Lake in central
Cambodia during December 2003.
In addition to the all important
fundraising element, the aim is to also help
increase awareness of the Koumar Pikar (Disabled Children)
Foundation’s work in Cambodia. This will be achieved
through local media coverage, participation in the International
Day of Disabled Persons activities on 3rd December and
a ‘fun-cycle’ ride to be held in Phnom Penh,
in order to encourage involvement by the local community.
Ray and Tania also plan to meet with local community
groups in the rural areas, during their travels.
Funds raised from ‘CyCleCambodia’ will
be used to provide support to current and future projects
of Friends of interPART, including the establishment of
a Day Centre. One main item being sought however, is a
suitable means of transport for the children and with this
is mind we aim to raise close to A$ 20,000. At the moment,
many of the children use an adapted, covered trailer pulled
by a motorcycle (as shown ).Although this will continue
to be used, an additional vehicle is urgently needed
This will enable children with disabilities:
To attend schools.
To seek medical treatment and rehabilitation.
To be involved in social and cultural activities.
To be able to take part in sporting pursuits (ie.swimming
etc).
Being able to embrace the world
by being part of it, will enable these children
to gain greater confidence and self-esteem, as well
as providing education opportunities that would not
otherwise be available to them.
Who are Friends of interPART ? ...
The members of Friends of interPART are a group of concerned
individuals, who volunteer their time and experience
in order to support projects they believe in. Therefore,
as with all our fundraising activities, all
monies kindly donated in support of ‘CyCleCambodia’,
will reach these children in need and not contribute
to the cost of the event itself.
If you would like to contribute towards
the future of these children, please download, complete
and return a Sponsorship Form together with your donation.
Thank you for your valued support
