Ray Walker and Tania Radis are the intrepid
travellers who are embarking on the 1,000 kilometre ride
around
Cambodia. Both are members of Friends of interPART. Ray
has been a very committed member for some time and although
Tania has recently joined she is also very dedicated
to the work of the organisation.
Ray has previously visited Cambodia and seen the difficulties
faced by the children with disabilities especially those
who have been orphaned and abandoned. A keen cyclist
all his life he put forward the idea, to Friends of interPART,
of doing a ‘ride’ in Cambodia to raise funds
for the children. Little did we know that it was going
to turn into a 1,000 kilometre trek !!!! He is being
supported in his efforts by our members, the community
of Macclesfield and many other friends. Ray explains
his involvement by saying
“ I find it most rewarding to share energy and
compassion with such an inspired group of people, who
are totally dedicated to assisting people in need”.
Tania, also a keen cyclist, was introduced to Ray by
another member when she heard of the cycle event and
soon became involved. Ray was delighted to have a fellow
traveller. Having experienced a devastating illness herself,
which she has overcome, Tania has an appreciation of
the vulnerability and suffering of others. She also recognises
that the needs are great for the most vulnerable in countries
such as Cambodia therefore she says of her involvement
in the event
“ It will make me feel that I have made a little
bit of a difference in the lives of some kids who have
suffered”.
Tania is also being strongly supported by friends and
colleagues at work.
Both Ray and Tania will be paying for all of the costs
of their trip so that all money raised will go directly
to projects for the children such as improvement in transport
and day care facilities.
