Operations Enfants De Battambang
(OEB) is a non-government,
non-political, non-racial, non-religious organisation,
which implements humanitarian activities to children
and youth in Cambodia. OEB was started in June 1996 and
was legally recognised by the Ministry of Interior during
March 1997 and also recognised by the Ministry of Social
Affairs, Labor, Vocational Training and Youth Rehabilitation
on the 7th September 2001.
There are six major components of the work
being implemented by OEB:
1. A Program of Reproductive
Health Education and Promotion
for Youth Aged 12 – 25 years.
2. A Program of Health
Care and Rehabilitation for Children with Disabilities.
3.
A Program of Health Care and Rehabilitation for Community
Work with the Disabled.
4. Socio-economic Reintegration
of Child Landmine Survivors (Districts within Battambang
Province).
5. Socio-economic Reintegration of Landmine Survivors
(Pailin City and Mong Russey District).
6. Education in Remote
Areas.
The OEB is working with the most vulnerable
in the rural areas surrounding Battambang. Among the
people being
supported are children with disabilities living with
their families in the community.
We were able to visit some families/children that gave
us an opportunity to observe the positive results of
their intervention.
OEB seeks to implement ‘holistic’ programs
and are involved in many areas including HIV/AIDS, income
generation, education and health. They are quite innovative
i.e. employing a local person in a remote area who can
read and write to provide some basic education to the
community where no public / government systems are available.
We were quite impressed with the level of commitment
of the staff and the range of activities providing support
to those most in need and for those living in remote
communities. There is much to learn from their activities.
Additional information available from Friends of interPART.
A young
man with artificial lower limbs and no hands has
received assistance from OEB including supportive
devices and educational aid.
