CRITERIA FOR DISBURSEMENT OF DONATIONS

The following criteria have been prepared to help Tigray Team members consider how best to distribute funds and other materials raised or contributed by Supporters.

Donated funds are mostly being held by Friends of interPART in the ‘Tigray’ Account, and disbursed by team members on-site. (Some have been given direct to Helen to take on her current mission.) The arrangements guiding management of this account are set out elsewhere (see FoiP communiqués and Committee Minutes).

Key Criteria

Activities being supported with donated funds will:

  • be consistent with pertinent Tigrayan/Ethiopian policies and strategies
be consistent with and contribute to the achievement of the stated Tigray Initiative goals and objectives
  • be consistent with donors’ expectations and understandings of how the money or materials will be used
  • be focused on community based organisations and activities (rather than, for example, government agencies)
  • be reported and accounted for.

In further prioritising distribution of funds, consideration will be given to:

  • ensuring a spread of disbursement across community-based IRDS stakeholder groups while recognising issues of feasibility
  • seed-funding and/or pilot activities that will be a springboard to other sources of funding
  • groups and/or activities that are not otherwise able to access funds or support from other sources.

Throughout, funds and materials should contribute in building the capacity of people and their organisations to become stronger, more effective, self-managed and self-determined entities.

Barry Lincoln and Glenn Williams
celebrated their joint 50th birthday and
raised $1,400 for the Tigray Initiative.
It is expected that these funds will
primarily go towards environmental activities
